All SCPA students in grades 4-12 are required to participate in the Arts Proficiency Exams (Boards) twice a year.

Boards Assessment

All Drama majors, grades 4 through 12, are required to perform an arts proficiency exams twice a year.

The Drama proficiency assessments, given in December and May, are evaluated by the entire Drama staff to determine each student’s level of mastery and growth in performance.

Students will earn one of four evaluation grades for their proficiency performance. In addition, these presentations are assessed as semester exams and count for 25% of the student’s semester grade.

All performances will be evaluated utilizing the Drama rubric focusing on Projection, Diction, Character Development, Intention, Physical Expression, Concentration, and Commitment to Task.

Upperclassmen (Grades 10-12) will also be assessed on their analysis of the script.

The four evaluation grades are:

Excellent: exceptionally high-quality performance that clearly exceeds all of the proficiency criteria.

Satisfactory: quality performance that clearly meets proficiency criteria and demonstrates growth.

Limited: below-average performance that is inconsistent in meeting each of the proficiency criteria.

Unsatisfactory: performance does not meet proficiency criteria, does not display growth, and lacks connection to skills taught in class.
