The Orchestra Program at SCPA is dedicated to providing students with the highest level of musical training, emphasizing the development of the whole musician. Open to students studying violin, viola, cello, or string bass, the program combines rigorous instruction with a wide range of performance opportunities, preparing graduates to continue their studies at leading conservatories and universities.

Instruction is provided by SCPA’s distinguished faculty as well as professional musicians from the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, giving students access to world-class mentorship. In addition to large ensemble work, students benefit from participation in chamber ensembles, master classes, and orchestral performances, fostering both technical mastery and artistic expression. Private instruction for non-majors is also available as space allows.

The Orchestra Program at SCPA has earned national recognition, including being named a GRAMMY Signature School for three consecutive years by the GRAMMY Foundation. Students have performed with the Cincinnati POPS Orchestra and the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, earned Superior Ratings at State Orchestra Contests, and appeared at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall (2005, 2008) and even the White House by invitation of President Obama. SCPA orchestral students are regularly selected for local youth symphonies, state orchestras, and other advanced opportunities.

Through its combination of elite instruction, celebrated performances, and professional mentorship, the Orchestra Program provides students with an unparalleled foundation in musicianship and artistic growth.
