Primary Music

The Primary Music program at SCPA introduces students in grades K–3 to the fundamentals of music through singing, movement, and classroom instruments. Students build a strong foundation in music literacy, performance, and appreciation, while developing creativity, confidence, and collaboration skills. Each class meets for one 50-minute session per week in a dedicated music space, where lessons are designed to foster active participation, artistic growth, and respect for the ensemble experience.

K-3 Vocal Highlights

In Primary General Music, students study:

• Music notation literacy
• Vocal technique and ensemble performance using voice and classroom instruments
• Elements of music, including styles and expression
• Historical and cultural context of music from around the world

Assessment & Growth

Music assessments are performance-based tasks, observed by the music teacher during class. Attendance and active participation are essential for accurate grading. Students are evaluated on proficiency, effort, and growth.
