To the parents of students enrolled in AP (Advance Placement) courses for 2019- 2020:
This school year the AP Exam registration will take place in the fall, and AP students and teachers will have access to new instructional resources. These resources include unit guides, personal progress checks, a bank of real AP questions, and more. CollegeBoard is also introducing new digital tools and processes. Due to these changes, the following processes are now in effect:
Changes to timing of ordering, reduced fee application, and fee posting
Exams will be ordered in October (after the end of 1st quarter). The exam is REQUIRED at SCPA as part of the completion of an AP course. All requests to drop an AP course must be initiated by the end of the midterm grading period (September 12, 2019) and completed by the end of 1st quarter (October 11th). After this date, students are “locked in” to completing the course and taking the exam. After exams are ordered there will be an additional $40 CollegeBoard fee for any student who does not take the exam.
The cost to take an AP assessment is $94.00 per test or portfolio submission. Therefore, if your child is in two courses, the cost is $188.00 and three tests will cost $282.00. Payment can be made online at www.payforit.net or you can pay with cash, money order or cashier’s check (made out to SCPA) and given to the treasurer, Katie Donnelly, in the main office. CollegeBoard has changed their process for test registration and payment of AP fees.
Reduced fee requests –Any student who meets federal guidelines for free and reduced lunch will have their fees reduced. Applications for those who qualify are available in the main office or online at www.schoolcafe.com. Applications should be completed and returned to the office by October 1, 2019.
We are starting this process early because we need to know who will qualify, i.e. application process completed, by the time exams are ordered. Full priced exam fees will be posted to student accounts by the end of October.
Thank you for supporting our students at SCPA.
