Move to Remote Parent Prep

Good Day SCPA Families,

As you may already know, COVID-19 infections are on the rise throughout Greater Cincinnati.  This has impacted the lives of many and we have experienced a shortage of staff as a result of illness and or caring for loved ones.  This week we have received support in covering classrooms from the district level in support of continuing in person instruction for students.  This has certainly been a challenge for us all.  

The CPS Board of Education will be taking a closer look Monday at the data showing percentage of teachers and staff absent from various schools.  You might be aware that the Interim Superintendent proposed closing CPS schools Thursday, January 6th through January 18th.  We should learn more Monday on next steps to either move to remote learning (i.e. classroom, school or district) based on all relevant data.  The decision to move to remote isn't an easy decision to make.  There are so many variables to consider when deciding to stay in-person or move to remote learning.  The impact of this decision will surely impact us all.  I want to encourage all SCPA families to make sure they are preparing themselves just in case we move to remote learning.

Please note the following will need to occur to ensure your student can be successful in the case we should need to transition to remote learning.

  • Your student must have a computer/iPad along with their charging chords.  School devices should be taken home daily.  If you encounter computer issues, your point of contact will be the CPS Helpdesk at 513-363-0390.
  • Students must use a CPS issued device to provide consistency across all platforms.
  • Students must be logged into their own Google account to use Google meeting codes.
  • Google account information (email and passwords) can be obtained by contacting the Help Desk. 
  • Students will receive their direct lessons from their teacher via a live Google Meet.  Students in grades 4-12 will follow their current bell schedule and class times (schedule is attached).  Schedules for students in grades K-3 will be shared with families to support both their academic and artistic learning pathway.
  • All assignments along with due dates etc. will be communicated on Schoology.  Google Meet invites will be found on their teacher’s Schoology page to support students entering their classes.  Attendance will be taken in each class.  If you do not have a parent Schoology account, please contact the Help Desk at 513-363-0390. 
  • Students should contact their teachers promptly for help or clarification.
  • Free Wi-Fi is available in students' homes through Cincinnati Bell's Connect Our Students program, with support from the Greater Cincinnati Foundation.  CPS families may call to sign up: 513-566-3895.
  • Do you need to update your contact numbers? If yes, please email our school registrar, Tracey Kirksey at wilsotr@cpsboe.k12.oh.us to provide your updated phone number.

In closing, we all need to be prepared just in case we move to remote learning.  Take time to have a discussion at home with your SCPA student(s) about the remote learning at home.  What space will they occupy to participate in online live google meets? Where will you post their weekly schedule? As a parent, do you know how to access Schoology etc.?  Please stay safe and thank you in advance for preparing for remote learning if it is necessary to move in this direction.
