Media Statement Regarding Individual CPS School Closures Due to Staffing Shortages

January 5, 2022

Due to staffing shortages related to increasing spread of COVID-19 in the community, Cincinnati Public Schools (CPS) continues to rigorously evaluate district staffing and case counts each day. Consistent with the board discussion earlier this week, we are making decisions to shift to remote learning on a school-by-school basis and communicating those decisions to families and staff as quickly as possible. This may mean migrating classrooms, grades or schools to remote learning, as needed.

Earlier today, families and staff at LEAP and AWL were alerted that, beginning tomorrow, Thursday, January 6, students and staff at those schools will shift to remote learning. Schools will remain in this status for 5 consecutive days. Therefore, both schools are expected to return to in-person learning on Tuesday, January 11.

CPS will maintain a running list of schools in remote learning on our website for reference by parents, staff and the community. We will provide an update on staffing, COVID-19 cases, and school closures at the Board Meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday, January 10
