September 5, 2019

Cincinnati Public Schools announced that Nick Nissley, executive director of the School for Creative and Performing Arts (SCPA), will resign in December to become the next President of Northwestern Michigan College.

Nissley's resignation date is December 20, 2019. The district will announce a transition and succession plan in the weeks ahead.

Since 2015, under Nissley's leadership, SCPA has executed its Strategic Plan 2020, a vision for artistic and academic excellence.

"As an alumna of SCPA and as superintendent of the district, we are grateful for Nick's leadership and stewardship of this incredible school that is the artistic center of gravity in downtown Cincinnati," said CPS Superintendent Laura Mitchell. "Nick's passion and relentless pursuit of excellence, both in the arts and academics, has solidified SCPA's legacy as a premier educational institution in the country."

"The SCPA Fund, which raises philanthropic support for the SCPA, is proud to have partnered with Nick and the rest of the SCPA leadership team to build a solid foundation of support for the SCPA," said SCPA Fund Chair Breta Cooper. "Nick's steadfast leadership and soaring vision were instrumental in bringing this unprecedented public school system — private sector partnership to life. We are grateful for his dedication and deep care for everyone that walked through the doors of the school and wish him great success in the future."

"It's with great excitement that I accepted this new opportunity at Northwestern Michigan College, but it is truly bittersweet to leave behind the passionate people who are enabling student success," Nissley said. "Over the next four months, I'm looking forward to partnering with SCPA’s Leadership Team, teachers and staff, parents, alumni, and donors to ensure a smooth transition to new leadership."

The School for Creative and Performing Arts is a K-12 Cincinnati Public School offering pre-professional arts training and advanced college preparatory academics. Approximately 1,483 students attend SCPA, which is housed in the new Erich Kunzel Center for Art and Education in downtown Cincinnati. Artistic departments include creative writing, dance, drama, instrumental music, technical theater, visual arts and vocal music. All students are admitted through highly selective auditions in the art majors.
